A few years back I heard about a website where you could buy shoes online. I’ll admit that I thought the idea of buying shoes online was stupid – how would you know if they fit or not? After giving it much thought I decided to browse the site one day and found a pair of shoes that I liked, but couldn’t find in any of the stores in my hometown.

I decided to order them. To make a long story short, Zappos.com has the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. After this positive experience, I decided to research Zappos and who was running this company.

Tony Hsieh is the CEO of Zappos.com, which was recently acquired by Amazon.com for 1.2 billion dollars. Hearing this, I immediately wanted to know everything about this company.

The Book

To my surprise, Tony had written a book that was to be released June 7th. Being a blogger, I found out I could get an advanced copy of the book, and I’m glad I did.

If you are interested in business, Startups, Entrepreneurship, or how to run a company with an amazing company culture, then you need to read Tony Hsieh’s new book, Delivering Happiness.

I don’t what to ruin the book for you, but to give you a little taste, Tony starts the book with a detailed look at his childhood and the trials and tribulations he went through to get where he is today. The book walks you all the way through every aspect of both Link Exchange (Tony’s first company) and Zappos.

Your Turn

If you’ve read the book, or plan to read it, let me know in the comments below. I look forward to seeing who else is now a huge fan of Tony Hsieh. Go get this book, it’s available now though amazon.com.

If it exists, I’ve tried it. Cramming for exams, pulling all nighters and long group projects are impossible to survive without a little “assistance”. Some students choose food to keep them focused, other choose caffeine. But as all college students know, there is an elite group of drinks dedicated to giving you the boost you need to focus on anything.

However, not all energy drinks are created equal. In fact, the new drink I stumbled upon isn’t even considered an “energy drink”. It’s an energy beverage. Before I reveal my new favorite study drink, I wanted to see what other students use.

I asked the readers of CampusByte for their input on what kind of things they used while studying. I was actually surprised by some of the answers.

The readers of CampusByte must be a rowdy bunch – here are some of the answers I received when I asked the question:

“I’m writing a new post for CampusByte on Wednesday. I need some feedback. What are your favorite study drugs/ drinks/ foods?”

Stevie wrote: “Adderall/redbull/sex”

Joyce wrote: “Chocolate Milk”

David wrote: “Mountain Dew mixed with Red Bull with a drop shot of 5 Hour Energy”

@CollegeThrive wrote: “Green Tea”

@astroneat wrote: “sun salutations and cold showers”

@btw_mj wrote “Slurpees”

To be honest, I rarely use energy drinks when I study now because most are just short energy spikes to get you though an assignment. Afterwards you always crash and end up feeling horrible. However, I recently stumbled upon an energy beverage invented by a pre med college student in his dorm room. The name of this drink is “NERD Energy Beverage“.

(No, I am not getting paid to write this. I actually found this product on my own and felt like sharing it because I honestly feel this beverage is going to be extremely popular on college campuses very soon)

What is it?

Get this, the CEO and creator was very busy with school, work and studying for the MCAT, so naturally, he was a Red Bull drinker. That’s when he came up with this idea. He approached his Organic Chemistry professor and asked him to order some very powerful focus and memory enhancers. He basically took the energy mix from red bull and added a memory and focus formula. Boom – genius.

I personally researched the main ingredients, which can be found here on their website, and found that these natural ingredients are proven to be linked to brain function -however, the only way to tell if it works or not was to try it out.

My experience

I had a marketing project I was working on last week so I decided to try out NERD.

The only thing that matters to me when it comes to study drinks is their effectiveness. I could care less how it tastes or what the can looks like, all I want to know is how well it works.

With that being said… it works. It works really well actually. The drink has the same amount of caffeine as a Starbucks coffee, so it definitely keeps you awake. That was obvious, but what surprised me was how well it allowed me to focus.

I finished my entire project in 45 minutes. It’s like I was immune to distractions. The words flowed directly from my brain to Microsoft Word and 45 minutes later I had written a 5 page marketing report.

This is unheard of for me. I usually get distracted and take hours to complete large assignments like this one.

The best part of the experience was no crash. Because the drink has only the amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee, I didn’t notice a crash.

The only downside for me was the sugar content. As a health conscious individual, I try to decrease the amount of sugar I take in. An energy beverage like this one contains a good amount of sugar, but I just found out they offer a zero calorie version that contains a natural sweetener. Problem solved.

I’m interested to see if anyone has tried this drink. I know they carry it at my University but I’m not quite sure how far it’s spread yet. I know it’s growing rapidly, so keep an eye out for it. If you can’t find it in stores, you can order it on their website.

The technique I’m about to show you is so simple, but I don’t know any students who use it. It’s incredibly easy to learn and will skyrocket your productivity but students stop using it around high school. If a simple technique can produce such great results, why don’t people use it?

Because of its simplicity, most students assume it can’t help them. They assume the technique is for younger kids because of how easy it is to learn. The truth is, many successful entrepreneurs use this method.

I’ve been using a modified version of timetables since I was in high school and my productivity has always been very high. If you take a second to learn this method I guarantee you will be able to complete your tasks more effectively, which will allow more time to enjoy life.

Timetable Example

To give you an idea of how to set up a timetable, here is what I wrote today:

Monday April 12, 2010

4:00 – 6:00pm Gym

6:00 – 7:00 Eat

7:00 – 7:30 Finish marketing research for group project

7:30 – 8:00 Create new logo in Photoshop for school project

8:00 – 9:00 Write a new guest post

9:00 – 11:00 Free Time

11:00 – Sleep

You can get as detailed as you like, just make sure you stick to the times.

Allocating Time

If you give yourself too long to complete a task, you will be wasting time. Always give yourself just enough time. It’s better to give yourself less time than too much, here is why.

If you don’t finish a task, stop working on it and move on to the next assignment. Come back to this task once you finish the other on your list. This will prevent you from spending all day working on one task then realizing you still have other things to do.

Also, by giving yourself just enough time to work on something, you will be cutting out all of the distractions and little things that lead to procrastination.

Rules

I’ve been using this method for a long time so I’ve come up with some rules that I like to follow. Keeping to these allows this method to work. If you don’t use these rules, you’re not going to be able to keep to your schedule.

Paper – Everyday. Create a new timetable everyday on paper. I recommend using paper to start with because it will allow you to physically feel the weight of the assignments you must complete. Carry the table around with you at all times. After some time, you can upgrade to using your cell phone but until you’ve mastered this technique, use paper.

Do Not Extend Times. If you do this, this technique will NOT work. You will be able to come back to projects when you are finished with the rest of the tasks. That’s what the Free Time is for.

Never Plan a Whole Day. Life is unpredictable. Planning an entire day will not give you leeway when something comes up. I plan out entire days only when I know for sure what I’m doing for the rest of the day, like going to the gym and then eating.

Plan Free Time. Make sure to plan free time into your schedule, but do not allow this to be a buffer. Only use free time for projects when you run out of time. Also, I always leave my weekends wide open. I might plan to work on a group project or write a paper, but for the most part I like to just relax and have fun on the weekends. College is supposed to be fun, remember.

Do you use timetables? Maybe you use a modified version. Let me know how you stay productive in the comments below. Also, make sure to get your cheap college textbooks.

If you recall, last week I decided to take on a 7-Day, no social media challenge. During this challenge, I refrained from using Facebook, Twitter and YouTube for a total of 168 hours.

This might seem like a short time for some, but for me, this felt like the week before school gets out – it dragged on forever. The purpose of this challenge was to help rid some of the garbage information from my life so I could focus on feeding my brain healthy data.

The challenge was a huge success for me. I’ve now redesigned some aspects of my productivity. I’ll show you how I did it and what tools I used.

What am I Battling?

The first step of this challenge was to recognize what exactly was the bad, or unhealthy information and what was good. Doing this allowed me to see what media sources were feeding me useless info and wasting my time and which ones actually made me a better student.

Here is the list of enemies:

Digg. Digg is an excellent social media voting site, the most popular even, but for some reason, the only Digg stories I end up clicking on are the ones titled “Your doing it wrong [PIC]”. These pictures are a waste of time and a huge distraction.

Facebook. I have too many friends. Now with Facebook’s new site design, I feel like my news feed updates every 5 seconds. I really don’t care about my ex-girlfriends trip to Paris, but Facebook thinks I need to see it. WHY?

YouTube. At the beginning of the semester I deleted my old YouTube account and created a new one. I wanted to start fresh – new subscriptions means fewer videos to watch. In just a few weeks, I was back to the same number of subscriptions and even more videos to watch. The lesson learned here is that YouTube teaches me nothing. 90% of my subscriptions are comedy and it’s a great site to visit when I want to relax, but visiting everyday is unhealthy.

My Battle Weapons

During my 7-day trial, I was able to develop new rules and strategies for combating these sources of unhealthy media.

Work on a schedule. If you don’t use time tables, I recommend starting today. I use time tables when I’m very busy, but haven’t used them that much this year. I made a time table on day one. That’s when it clicked, “Why did I ever stop using these.” If you don’t know what a time table is, don’t worry, I’ll be covering this in-depth in my next post. But for now, here is an example.

Separate work from personal. This one helps big time. Think about it. Your mind likes to work on one thing at a time. “Multi-tasking” is inefficient. If anyone tells you otherwise, I officially give you permission to smack them in the face. Totally kidding, but really, the sooner you realize this the sooner you will start effectively producing quality content.

Notice how my timetable doesn’t say, “Work on CampusByte AND Homework.” These two things are very different and deserve their own attention. I make sure to finish my homework before I start my personal work or leisure activities.

Dive In. If you’re wondering how I motive myself to do hard work, I can honestly say I don’t have an answer for you except that I dive in headfirst. When faced with a task that I really don’t want to do, I find it easier to throw myself into my work without giving it too much thought. Before I know it I’m chugging along and my goal turns into finishing instead of starting.

Recovery is Key

No one is a machine. The people who say they can work tirelessly for days are big fat liars. Everyone needs time to relax and recharge their batteries. If you don’t you will end up burnt-out and ready to quit altogether.

The timetable above is a normal Thursday for me, but my weekends allow me to sleep in if I choose and I also get to have some free time. Also I never plan out my weekends unless I have group projects or important tests coming up.

Learn to have fun, that’s the whole reason you’re in college in the first place.

Stay Consistent With These Tools

Staying consistent with a plan like this can be hard. You might start strong then get tired and revert back to your old habits. I know this is going to be a challenge for me, so I’ve set some elements in place that will help me stay the course.

Social Oomph. This is an excellent tool for anyone who wants to automate part of their social media. Getting on Twitter constantly to update is time consuming and very distracting. Instead, I set Social Oomph to automate half of the tweets I send out. You can set them to publish at different times or immediately. Either way this will help keep you on track.

Facebook Hiding. Did you know you could block certain content from your news feed? I now have my news feed set to hide anything related to Farmville, Café World, Mafia Wars and ex-girlfriends. To set this up, simply click on the “Hide” button that pops up when you hover over a bad feed entry. You can choose to block the person or the type of app they are spamming.

Self Discipline. Nothing fancy here, just good old fashioned self discipline. You will notice that as you reduce the amount of garbage information you consume and increase the healthy information, the temptation to “cheat” seems to subside.

Stay focused and try to “eat” healthy. Did the 7-day challenge teach you anything? Let me know in the comments.

In order to be healthy, you must feed your body healthy foods. Let’s think of “information” as food for your brain.

An athlete knows that to be successful they must feed their body healthy and nutritious foods. By doing this – along with exercise and proper training – an athlete will be able to compete at the top of their game.

Look at your productivity as if you were an athlete. In order to be a successful student, entrepreneur, writer, whatever…you must feed your body the proper information.

Everyday we’re bombarded with all types of information – Facebook status updates, YouTube clips, class lectures, TV advertisements, – all these sources are part of our lives, but we have the power to choose what we consume.

Just like the athlete, we must choose to consume information that is healthy, natural, proportionate, and dense:

Healthy Information – Information that is good for your brain. Examples include lecture notes, textbooks, and helpful advice. Unhealthy info refers to the abundance of garbage we must process on Facebook, twitter and TV.

Natural Information – Information that comes directly from the source, such as a trusted websites or definitions from the class textbook. Using Urban Dictionary to define terms is not a smart idea.

Proportionate – Just as an athlete consumes a proper caloric amount to excel, the amount of information you choose to process should be proportionate. Make en effort to process information in small amounts allowing time for you brain to soak up the data. “Cramming” tons of info before an exam should only be used in dire situations.

Dense – Athletes eat foods that are nutritionally dense, meaning they consume as little calories as possible while maximizing the nutritious value of their food. The same goes for your brain. Taking long detailed notes will leave you exhausted after a study session. Instead, condense your notes to only the information you are unsure of. This will help your brain remember only the important things.

The Challenge

For the next 7 days, I will be using a program called LeechBlock to prevent me from accessing Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube on my computer. I will use Twitter at work to promote this article, but I will not be reading tweets or mentions.

My Facebook picture and status update will be this message:

“I will be unavailable via Facebook until April 5th. Visit www.CampusByte.com to find out why.”

(Click here to get the photo)

Why?

Everyday when I wake up, the first thing I do is check twitter for new blog posts or interesting tweets. I usually get side tracked and end up looking at what’s topping digg.com since I follow digg on twitter.

Next, I check Facebook for messages from group members for school projects. Ten minutes later I’m looking at spring break pictures from some girl I don’t even know.

This is all before I eat breakfast.

If you’re tired of consuming “garbage” and want to make a huge change in your productivity level, I challenge you to join me in 7 days of no social media.

You might need to alter the rules to fit your addictions, but try to eliminate the worst time consumers and the sites that feed you “garbage” information.

Can we improve our productivity by completely removing these sites from our lives? I guess we’ll find out in 7 days. Let me know if you’re with me in the comments below.

This is a guest post by Mohammad Arfeen from Pre-Med Hell where he writes tips for succeeding as a pre-med student.

You’ve been out partying, you get back to your room and you realize that you have only a few days to study for your next exam. What do you do? In this post I’m going to try to cover the most basic and effective cramming techniques that I know. First let me give you a little background on myself, I am a biochemistry major, which means that most of the methods I will cover will be methods that have helped me cram for science exams, they may not translate directly to other majors. For the sake of generality I will attempt to block out major points, which you can apply to any subject. So let’s get started.

First things first, we need to understand the situation that we are in. We have between 24 to 48 hours before the exam, and say 3-5 chapters of material to study. Let’s make some assumptions, you have been attending the lectures, and you are fairly up to date with the reading assignments or problem sets. Now we go over the limitations of cramming, there is no way that you can cover all of the material, and you will not be storing this material in your long term memory; which means you will have to go over the material again before a final exam. Our main goal in this situation is damage control; we need to make the best of a horrible situation.

Pro-Tip One: Prepare

Isolate yourself, find a place where no one else can find you, and you will have no distractions. Bring pens, paper, pencils, food, drinks, and anything else you may need, once you sit down in this place you shouldn’t be leaving.

Pro-Tip Two: Game Plan

Create a game plan, set up a timeline and write down exactly what you want to cover each hour. The most important thing to remember here is damage control, there is no way to cover all the material in such a limited amount of time. Aim for the easy points, don’t lose points on material that you are comfortable with. I like to follow the 80/20 rule, spend 20% of your time learning new material, and 80% of your time becoming perfect at the material. Set a deadline for yourself to finish studying, remember Parkinson’s Law “the perceived complexity of a task will expand to fill the allotted time.”

Pro-Tip Three: Triage

Now that you have decided what is going to be cut out, focus on the big picture, stick too bolded sentences, and key words. Do problems that you find difficult, and review sections that give you trouble. Stick to your plan.

Pro-Tip Four: Condense

After you have done a review of the material, start condensing. Condense every chapter down into an index card. By the end of the night you should be able to condense the whole exam in one index card.

Pro-Tip Five: Repetition

Recite the material over and over, write it out over and over, and just keep repeating. Your goal is to put the material into your short term memory, the easiest way to do this is to keep repeating.

Pro-Tip Six: Calm Down

Maintain your cool, go in with a positive attitude, don’t think about what you did wrong. The most important thing to do at this point, is to keep a positive mental attitude, you need that mental edge over the test. Don’t start to get nervous or antsy, you can’t afford to lose that edge to the test.

Pro-Tip Seven: Sleep and Caffeine

These are both powerful tools, try to get at least three to four hours of sleep before the exam, and set your alarm at least 2 hours before the exam, cease all studying about a half hour before the exam. Any studying done in the 2 hours before the exam should be using the note cards you made with the condensed material. If you are a coffee person or a caffeine person, have some about 20 minutes before going into the exam, make sure you use the restroom before going in.

Good luck, and remember damage control, there is no way to cover everything so don’t try to learn everything. Next time be sure to study earlier so you don’t find yourself in the same position.

How often do you sit down and write out your goals? Do you ever set a general goal for yourself that never gets completed? One of the hardest things for me to do when I was a freshman was setting specific goals. I was really good at planning for the short term, but when it came to making specific goals, I would lump the requirements of the goal into one general goal.

In this article I want to address a method for setting goals that has helped me concentrate and remember more effectively, perform better and achieve more, and be happier and more satisfied in college.

Why Set Goals?

Goal setters achieve outstanding results because they have learned how to focus and concentrate their time, energy, and resources on a single objective. Their concentrated power can produce results that are much greater than those achievable though the diffused and unfocused energy many people use to get through their day.

In my experience, setting SMART goals instead of general ones will produce better results with less stress.

What are SMART goals?

SMART stands for the five components of a goal: Specific, Measurable, Action-Oriented, Realistic, and Time-Bound.

The act of thinking carefully about what you want to achieve and determining a clear course of action will give you a better understanding of what your goals are and how you can achieve them.

SPECIFIC. Do you need to finish a particular assignment? Can you break a larger task down into smaller items? Specific goals are goals that state exactly what you want to achieve.

MEASURABLE. How many pages? Questions? Laps? Establish clear definitions to help you know if you’re reaching (or have reached) your goal. If you’re confused about how to measure your goal, you’ll be less likely to achieve it.

ACTION-ORIENTED. How many verbs are associated with the task: reading, typing, writing, making? This is the how part of goal setting. Describe your goals using action verbs, and outline the exact steps you will take to accomplish your goal.

REALISTIC. Can you do this in the time given? Give yourself the opportunity to succeed by setting goals you’ll be able to accomplish. Strive to reach a good middle-ground: goals set too high could discourage you, but goals set too low will fail to challenge and motivate you.

TIME-BOUND. When will you know that you’re finished? Decide exactly when you’ll start and finish your goal. Knowing exactly how long you have to reach your goal is an excellent way to stay motivated and focused.

My Experience

This technique works on both short and long term goals. Below I’ll compare a general goal to a SMART goal.

General Goal: Make an ‘A’ on my Management Test.

SMART Goal:
S- I will read and understand the material from chapters one through four.
M- I will answer all of the study questions on the review.
A- I will Preview, Read, and Recall every chapter while making flashcards.
R- I will focus on this assignment for 2 hours every day, until test time.
T- I’ll finish this assignment by 10pm everyday so that I get an adequate amount of sleep each night.

Goal Setting Tips

Figure out an organizational system for setting and keeping track of your goals. For me, this meant updating my to-do list and calendar with each new goal.

Set hierarchies. Be sure to express your goals in order of importance, with the most important goal first on the list. Try arranging by must do, shoulddo, and could do.

Avoid using the word try when you set your goals. Be positive! And believe you can succeed without hedging your bets from the start.

Write your goals on paper, on your phone, or create a computer document for them. The process of choosing words to express your goals allows you to personalize them and commit yourself to them. It will also help you to stay on top of them.

Post your goals somewhere you’ll see them several times each day.

Have you tried setting SMART goals before? Let me know in the comments below.

At some time in your life, you will need a resume. The question is – what does a good resume look like? There are many different ways to write a resume, however there are some key points that absolutely need to be included.

Below I have included a guide on how to create the perfect resume and also some tips to help your resume stand out. Also check out the link at the bottom of the page to see an example of a good cover letter and resume.

Step 1: Write name in bold w/ info

Write your name in bold at the top of the page, followed by your address, phone numbers, and email address. Then center the whole thing. It also helps to make your heading slightly bigger than the rest of your resume so it stands out at the top of the page.

Step 2: List work history

List your work history, starting with your most recent position. Include the place of employment, the dates you were employed there, and the type of job you performed. If it’s your job titles that are impressive, lead with them in bold. If the places you worked are more impressive than what you actually did there, bold them instead. Also, give a brief summary of what you did at each position. Make this summary short and write in third person.

Step 3: Adjust to job description

Look closely at the description of the job you’re applying for, and adjust what you’ve written to emphasize your most relevant skills and experience. If you’re not applying for a specific job, use an “Objective” line to describe what kind of work you’re looking for and why you want it.

Step 4: List education

When you’re done listing former jobs, list your education, including the school you graduated from and the degree you earned there. It is customary to list your cumulative GPA when you are fresh out of college. Later in life, this number won’t matter as much.

Step 5: List personal information

After your education, list any personal information—like hobbies, interests, or skills—that pertain to the job you’re seeking. The most relevant skills to include are proficiency in a foreign language and knowledge of a specific computer application or platform. This is also a great place to list any achievements, awards, leadership roles or organization memberships.

Step 6: Offer references

Always offer to make “references available upon request” at the end of your resume. It’s classy—and if you actually have them, it’s even better.

IMPORTANT: Before giving your resume to anyone, call your references and check to make sure they’re comfortable with you listing them as a reference. This gives you a chance to reconnect with your old bosses and make sure they will still hold you in high regard in case your new company decides to contact your reference.

Step 7: Spell-check your work

Be sure to spell-check your work. Also, try to get an appointment with a career counselor at your college to go over your resume. Often they can make suggestions to make your resume look more professional.

Step 8: Print resume

When your resume is letter-perfect, print it out on the special paper of your choice. Traditionally resumes are only 1 page in length, however, some encourage more detailed resumes depending on what field you’re going into.

Other Tips

By following these steps, you should have a good resume ready for distribution. If you’re interested in adding some pizzazz to your resume, there are a few things you can do to make your resume stand out.

In the Personal Information section, list something unique about yourself that might separate you from the other interviewees. For example, my brother is a finalist in a video game design competition at SXSW. Depending on how he does this year, he will most definitely list this on his resume.

For the first time since my freshmen year of college, I have an 8:00am class. I managed to weasel my way out of every early morning class my entire college career until now. I’m in my last semester of college and I have a class at the bright and early time of 8:00am. It’s not even bright outside at that time!

So how did I transition from a grumpy morning person to an early riser? It’s actually not as hard as you think. It’s a combination of self-discipline and a secret that I will reveal later in this article. In fact, getting up early was a lot easier than I thought it would be. If I can change, anyone can – trust me.

Knowing that I had to prepare for my early morning class I decided to practice waking up early before the semester started. I did plenty of research on different early rising techniques and finally decided on the simplest one, which actually works the best.

To help you understand how this technique works, I will walk you through my morning routine before and after the change.

Before

It’s 6:30am. My alarm goes off. I immediately slam the snooze button on my alarm clock. I yell a few choice words, and then start that little head conversation that everyone has:

This is way too early. I deserve a few more minuets of sleep.

It’s so warm under the covers, if I get up it’s going to be cold and that will be unpleasant.

I will just skip breakfast, then I can sleep in a little longer.

I promise I will get up at the next alarm

Ten minutes later, my alarm goes off again. This time I have to hold myself back from throwing my alarm clock across the room. However, I start the exact same head conversation and usually end up falling asleep again.

Once I realize I’m going to be late, I finally get out of bed and stumble into the bathroom where I brush my teeth and get angry at myself for not getting up at the first alarm.

This is how I functioned for most of my college career. It was inefficient, and on most days I found myself showing up late to work or class.

After

It’s 6:30am. My alarm goes off. I immediately turn it off instead of snooze. I take a deep breath in, making sure to fill my entire lung capacity. I spend a few seconds stretching and sit up in bed. The deep breath gives your body oxygen to send to your muscles while the stretching physically stimulates the muscles to prepare them for moving.

Within seconds of my alarm going off, my feet hit the floor. I stumble into the bathroom and brush my teeth. Next, I make my way to the kitchen to cook breakfast.

How and Why This Works

The secret here is keeping your brain off while running through your morning routine. As soon as you turn your brain on, that’s when you run into problems. Subconsciously, your body knows it’s time to get up and start the day, however, your conscious mind has feelings and desires such as, warmth, being comfortable, and sleeping in.

So how do you train your body to do these tasks without thinking? Practice. You must be able to wake up at the same time for several days before this method works. Also, your morning routine needs to stay the same every morning.

This method works because, with practice, we are able to train our bodies to do tasks subconsciously. Have you ever had to think about tying your shoes, brushing your teeth, or making a pot of coffee? These tasks are routine and can be done with your brain off. That’s the idea behind this method.

The Most Important Part

In order for this technique to work, you must wake up at the same time every day. That means that even on days you’re able to sleep in, you must wake up at the same time.

Also, you must get an adequate amount of sleep every night. To do this, simply go to bed when you are tired. I usually give myself an hour to wind down and remove myself from stimulating activities such as Television, Computer, and Video games. Instead I spend the last hour before sleep reading. Reading is a great way to gauge how tired you are. If you’re unable to keep your eyes open, it’s time to go to sleep. On days when I’m not tired, I will keep reading till I get sleepy.

The great aspect of this technique is that, if you end up staying up too late one night, you will be able to fall asleep sooner the next night because you are getting up at the same time everyday. Your mind knows this and will allow you to get sleepy sooner.

In Conclusion

This technique works great if you are willing to give it a try. Keep these two short rules in mind:

Go to sleep when you’re tired.

Wake up every morning at the same time, no matter what.
