About The Authors
Melanie Wright
Hey, my name is Melanie Wright and I’m one of the new writers here at CampusByte. After a two year journey of self discovery, I’m finding myself at college for the first time as a twenty year old freshman. I was stressed out within days. I asked around, did my research and now I’m a complete technology addict. I’ve figured out all sorts of crazy ways to take advantage of everything college has to offer and how to beat the system.
What I initially found incredibly difficult is now a breeze and I have plenty of time to devote to doing the things I enjoy. Currently, I attend a two-year community college in Cranford, NJ where I’m a Journalism major. I’ve learned that college isn’t meant to be boring or stressful. Equipped with the right tools, it can actually be enlightening and incredibly fun. I’m here to share what I know and make sure that you get everything you can out of college and enjoy doing it.
Theo
Theo is a student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong majoring in Life Sciences. She joined CampusByte in October, 2010. She enjoys playing sports, playing and listening to good music and reading good books, as everyone does. She is currently living on campus occupying a twin room in a flat shared with 11 other students, but you can easily spot her things since she is obviously OBSESSED with the colour green.
Being raised in a former British colony, Theo sometimes mixes British and American English. She refers to the institution of higher education as “university” but often uses terms like “college tips” and “college life”. Not that she didn’t care, she just thinks things sound a little bit weird the other way.
She enjoys writing about college tips more than paragraphs of “About Me”. She reckons it’s proper to end with her email theo@campusbyte.com and Twitter @theowoo.
Jay Willingham
Hey, I’m Jay Willingham, the founder of CampusByte. In 2006 I had just been accepted into The University of Texas at Austin. Within the first few weeks of school, I withdrew from all of my classes because I didn’t understand why I was in college or what my goals were. I was lost and I needed a change in my life to put me on the right track. That change came when I got a Job working for Microsoft in their Xbox department. I worked 40 hour weeks, was paid very little, and never saw my friends. I applied many times for jobs higher up in the company, but was denied every time because I lacked a degree. This experience showed me just how important it is to get an education. After quitting my job, I was accepted back into The University of Texas at Austin and after four years of hard work, I graduate with a degree in Sport Management. I’ve since gone on to work in business development for a large mobile technology firm in Austin, Texas.
I don’t claim to have all the answers, but what I do have is 6 years of experience in every type of situation you might find yourself in college. Because of this, I write about proven techniques that have helped me become a better student, make better grades, make more friends, enjoy college and graduate with a degree.
